Hi Matt

Thanks for the positive mention, and yes you're right, we are wrapped!

We get where you're coming from 100% regarding the ethics of accepting payments/gifts/bribes in return for favourable coverage. Hopefully as you can see from our campaign you, or anybody else involved, are under absolutely no obligation whatsoever to write, comment, discuss, upload photos to Flickr etc. about our Companions wines.

We've rolled the dice and we'll see where they land - good, bad or indifferent. That's the difference between us, a small wine company trying to make its voice heard in a more direct and engaging way, and the big guys who continue to push the same traditional advertising message through a new channel.

We see social media as a dialogue with our drinkers rather than the traditional monologue.

Check out the shit storm that went through the US wine blogging community following the recent Rodney Strong campaign http://fermentation.typepad.com/fermentation/2008/08/on-press-sampli.html

Cheers,

Matt

[...] I blog mostly about social media, Google and Facebook, but I also mention wine from time to time and I have blogged specifically about Kirrihill Wine. [...]

Lucky...wine, I only got to review a few marketing books.

Great post. Yes, we don't have a legal obligation, but a moral obligation is the grey area.

I think peer pressure will decide.
